Report and Gallery. Global Day of Prayer - Valley Stadium - 11th May 2008

Stills Gallery
shot by William Workman - Redditch.

What a different day to last year! The weather was glorious and added to the festival spirit created by the sound of the Salvation Army brass band who played a selection of music as people arrived. This masked some of the last minute angst that arose that morning:
The locks on the roller shutter for the toilets had broken and someone had to come and drill them open.
A text message moments before we started informed me that the football match scheduled for 6.30pm (which gave us very little clear up time) was, in fact, at 6.00pm. This led to an alteration of the program as we went.

About 300 people came along. Some set up picnic sites on the pitch while many stayed in the relative shade and cool of the stands. The sound crew did an excellent job and the well balanced sound could be heard in a neighbouring estate.
Andrea Minichiello Williams from the Lawyers Christian Fellowship, came to speak to us about some of the issues and bills passing through Parliament. Because of a bill in the House of Commons the following day, she stressed the need to pray about the Fertilisation and Embryology Bill.
Many local Church leaders led sections of prayer and the youth from Christ Church performed 2 dramas and 2 dances. The youth from Redditch Baptist Church performed a flag dance during the worship time.

This was an important event for the town and for the nation. It was great to see representatives from so many churches and visitors from several other towns. It was a shame that our time allocation was so tightly framed, but it was a good day.

Many thanks to everyone who took part or helped in some way (nearly 60 people) and to those who supported the event.

Andy Hall
